Spitfire history

The Supermarine Spitfire is one of the most known airplanes of World War II where it played a major role. The development of it went quite fast. For UK it was of great importance in the battle for air space. In that period at least 20,000 where manufactured.

The airplane was had immens value to the British people. At the time it flew for the British Royal Air Force. A prototype was already flying years before that. Later in the war, other types of Spitfires were developed. The fighter plane’s name is based on a girl that had al lot of temperament. The plane could seat only one person: the pilot.

The Spitfire first came into action on August 4, 1938. The 19th Squadron of the Royal Air force was the first to use this new aircraft. However, it was not until 1940 that the aircraft had to take action due to acts of war. The plane became famous during the Battle of Britain. The Spitfire was very popular among the British people.
